My Blueberry Nights

Went out with Ks for ktv session on friday and headed to Sim Lim Square to buy some stuff.

Went to Great World City to watch My Blueberry Nights on saturday with Derrick.

My Blueberry Nights by acclaimed director Wong Kar Wai retains his individual style even though the setting is now in United States. He chooses the laid back settings of cafes, pubs and the lush mountainous regions between Las Vegas and Memphis as a serene and beautiful backdrop. The songs by Norah Jones are adequately featured with her jazzy and breezy tone quality as a complement to the soothing and stylistically artistic movie.

The story is about Elizabeth (Norah Jones) who sets out on a journey across America after a painful breakup. She leaves behind a cafe owner (Jude Law) who is still pinning for her. Waitressing her way through the country, Elizabeth befriends others whose relationships are complicated and far from perfect, including a troubled cop (David Strathairn) and his estranged wife (Rachel Weisz) and a gambler (Natalie Portman) whom she accompanies to Las Vegas.

The pace of the movie is relaxing yet enjoyable, the side stories unfolding alongside the main story are engaging and captivating, each person in Elizabeth's road journey with a life story to tell. The cinematography and visual editing are good work, as expected from a Wong Kar Wai film. If only the main story is more interesting than the side stories, nonetheless
it is a thought provoking road journey with many life lessons to offer.
