Day 2: Macau to Hong Kong (21/12/06)

We woke up at 8 am and Edwin and I went to the hotel restaurant for breakfast as there are only 2 breakfast coupons. Jimmy and Gs had cup noodles for breakfast which we had bought the day before.

In our hotel room ready to set off

Our 1st stop is Guia Fortress which is just located behind our hotel. However, we will take more than 1/2 an hour if we were to climb up Guia Hill as the only entry up is the road which is not on the side of the hotel. We took a cab up the hill and walked up to the peak.

I wanted to go Lou Lim Ieoc Garden but we were rather tight with the timing and decided to give it a miss. Headed to A-Ma temple via cab next.

Kun Iam Statue along the way to A-Ma temple

This temple is more than a century old and it existed even before the portuguese colonised the islands.

A-Ma Temple

"Ming something" (my chinese language not very good)

We then headed up to Penha Church, which is located at the top of a hill, and i was leading the way. The up-slope was rather tiring to climb and i did not use the map to navigate my way. It was purely based on intuition and the general direction of the church. Passed by several interesting looking buildings along the way. The area around the hill housed rich people from the design and age of the private buildings.

Moorish Barracks (1 of the 25 buildings in the Historic Centre of Macau)

Love the architecture of the condos there, modern and cool (notice 3 people from far walking up the slope)

Actually i walked very fast as i wanted to 'recce' the front to make sure that i wasn't bringing the rest to the wrong place. Didn't check the map as there are a lot of small roads intersecting which makes it hard to navigate using the map.

I walked and walked and i could not see the 3 of them behind. Then i saw a signboard in front saying Penha Church pointing to a road up and i was relieved and glad that i found the correct route. I waited near the signboard for a few minutes for them to walk up but they did not appear and i went down the road to check out the situation.

They had stopped in the middle of the high-sloping road as they thought i was lost and bringing them around without a clue. Motioned them from afar to get up the way i climbed. My navigation skills pro one leh, mai siao siao..... Haha....

Finally, we reached Penha Church where we had a bird's eye view of the city centre.

End of Part 1 (8 am to 10.30 am)
