Met up with my army friends + jy's gf today coz jk is back in singapore for a few months before he returns back to Chicago for studies. We went to a Japanese restaurant in Marina Square, Waraku, for lunch. The restaurant is quite big and we had a nice cosy room reserved for us.
Took a picture while waiting for the food to arrive
We spent some time chatting afterward and headed to a dessert shop along Liang Seah St next. It was nice to catch up with them as the bunch of us haven't met for quite some time.
I accompanied Jk to Starbucks next where he wanted to write his script for his next short film and i got the chance to see some of the short films that he had made. We discussed about the script that he is currently writing and i'm glad that he appreciated my comments for it. I do enjoy talking to him about filming and stuff coz it's so different from what i'm studying and it's so interesting. (A part of me wish that i was in an arts course)
Anyway, i met up with Derrick and Edwin to watch Zodiac at The Cathay at night.
Zodiac is a true life story of a killer nicknamed Zodiac who murders young couples at secluded locations around San Francisco and sends the chilling details of the murder to San Francisco Chronicles and other newspapers, as well as codes for them to decipher. Everyone gets into a frenzy and even the newspaper's cartoonist gets into action in solving the codes. The trail that the murderer left behind is almost non-existent and the cops have a hard time in trying to track him down.
The movie starts off with a scene of graphic killings and the intense atmosphere sustains throughout the first half of the movie. The reporter, the cartoonist, and the 2 cops in charge of the highly publicised case get embroiled in the action. Their work spills over into their personal life as the investigations become long and exhaustive over time. The drama unfolding is still highly watchable and relevant although the crimes took place nearly 30 years ago. The pace is a little uneven in the middle of the show but the cast is incredible and Jake Gyllenhaal does a great job in depicting the earnest and determined cartoonist doing his own investigation of the unsolved murder.
The director also knows how to arouse the audiences' anxiety and fear as well as developing well-rounded characters. The case was never closed in real life but we already had in mind who is the real killer by the end of the show.
