Been slacking almost the whole of yesterday and studying a bit today for my last exam next tue. Went out for supper with my jc friends at Bukit Timah just now.

Just got stung by a bee that flew into my room when i tried to catch it. Don't use tissue to catch them coz they can sting through the tissue, unless maybe you are using many layers.

My nightmare is over

Completed my physics exam today! Was really glad that it's over coz the physics syllabus was overwhelming.

Digested all of this Physics 2 study guide yesterday from 2 pm to 3.30 am. It was helpful as i knew how to tackle most of the physics questions that they can ask.

However, i'm wondering if my efforts prior to the exam was worth it coz it was easy. Completed all of the questions except one part. Most people felt that the exam was indeed do-able, and many completed the paper before 2.5 hours is up.

Next up, my last paper Chemistry in 5 days time. Somehow, it feels like i've completed my exams already. I've already started looking in Classified for temp jobs. Don't like the feeling of aimlessness after the exams, but i doubt i can find a job during the short 2 weeks considering the fact that i'll be leaving Spore on 16th May for NZ.

I Hate Physics!

>> Wednesday, April 26, 2006

Even computing is better than physics! Chemistry is better, maths is better, any subject is better than physics! There are 82 formulas in the formula sheet and quite a number of formulas are not in it. Not only do we have to understand how to apply all these formulas, we also have to understand the concept behind it.

2 more to go

2 more papers to go and my body has started to give way to the ill effects of mugging and late nights. Should have seen a doctor a few days ago but my optimistic thought that my illness will get better prevented it.

The computing paper today was manageable and it was easier than most of the advanced questions in the textbook. I finally can throw all the things that i've learnt for computing away.

My next horror paper is Physics 2 and i've barely finished 50% of the syllabus. 2 more days to go before my 2nd last exam! Hope that my sore throat, flu and cough don't affect my studying.

Sad Day

>> Saturday, April 22, 2006

My dad found these 2 baby birds fallen from their nest in the forest behind my house. He brought them back and fed them, putting them in a container with bits of newspaper for them to rest.

A photo of them when they are being fed

A photo of them when they are asleep

These 2 baby birds are really cute and adorable. It was the first time that i fed a baby bird. We fed them with tiny bits of porridge.

I thought they would live longer than a few days. I even imagined myself playing with the bird when they grow older. I was wrong. Both of them died. I wondered what type of birds they would mature into but we all didn't have the chance to see. I even watched one bird poop and helped to clean up the mess.

Having taken care of these little beings, finding out that both of them died when i got back home today was very sad indeed. Life is so precious yet so fragile.

Disaster Day

>> Thursday, April 20, 2006

First, it was the maths 2 paper. Among all the 6 past year papers i've done, i'm 100% sure that our paper was the HARDEST. It wasn't just a bit harder, it was MUCH harder. I'm sure there will be moderation as some of my clever course mates also complained about some questions that they didn't know how to do. There are tough trigo manipulations within polar coordinates that is converted from cartesian equation using multiple integrals, limits infused with D-operator plus variables of a, b and c, variation of parameters that require integration by parts for 4 times, and finally power series with a hard to solve denominator.

Nah, it's over so i shouldn't care about it.

Second, i almost got into an accident today. The 'stupid' barrier at Science carpark in NUS got some problem and couldn't open. As the car in front of me wanted to reverse out from the carpark as it cannot go in, i had to reverse as well, blocking the oncoming traffic. While i was concentrating on the oncoming traffic and the vehicles behind me when reversing, i did not notice an ambulance turning right from a side road on the left side of the road. So while i was reversing back to the lane i turned right from, the ambulance went behind my vehicle to turn right. If not for Gs, i might have reversed into the ambulance.

I was really quite lucky not to bump into the ambulance as the distance between my lorry and the ambulance is only a few cms.

Third, Gs, Terence and i decided to go Arts canteen for dinner and i was on my way out of the carpark. I tailgated a vehicle on my way out as the traffic outside the carpark was quite slow. Guess what, the 'stupid' barrier came crashing down on my lorry. I thought there is a sensor to prevent the barrier from coming down when vehicles are passing through. Bummer! I was really stunned as the barrier came down and knocked my lorry. The barrier stayed at the 45 degrees mark and i really thought i jammed the barrier. Reversing and moving forward didn't work and i reversed back into the carpark, letting a car behind me go first.

After i reversed fully, the barrier started to function normally again. I was so relieved to find out that i didn't spoil the barrier. Luckily the barrier had rubber linings around it so it didn't scratch my lorry or anything.

It's definitely a wake up call for me to start driving more cautiously and not be so impatient.

My 2nd Exam

>> Monday, April 17, 2006

Had my Effective Communication exam today and it was relatively easy. Didn't have to study much for the exam either. I spent only a few hours browsing through the textbook yesterday

Next up, maths 2 exam on wednesday. Been mugging quite intensively these past few days. My daily routine is wake up, drive to nus, study, eat, study, eat, drive back home, surf net for 30 to 60 mins, sleep.

2 more weeks to go!

First exam

>> Thursday, April 13, 2006

Completed my first exam for this sem today. Had S/Ued the elective and i think i made the right choice as i am most certain that i would not get an A if i did not S/U it. I spent roughly around 1 day preparing for the exam as there was not a lot to study.

I'm getting sick of studying already. More motivation please...... My "fave" hangout place is now NUS Science Library. 19 days to go before the long awaited 3 months holiday!

Mugging

Been studying in NUS on friday and saturday at Science Lib. Went to LT 31 which is on 24 hours when Science Lib closed at 10 pm on saturday.

This LT is quite different from NTU's LTs with its movable cushion seats and tables.
Covered quite a lot of topics on physics, computing and my elective, Understanding Chinese Cinema. Will be having my first exam this wed.

Will be going NUS or NTU to study during this exam period as i really can't study at home. Watched American Idol and Superband today. No mood to study so watched tv.

I'm also considering to go NZ in may. Should i go or not? It costs around 2k leh. Have to make a decision in the next few days.

Reflections

While packing my stuff before going back home today, i feel a sense of depression creeping in. Not only do i have to mug hard for this entire month, i'll also be saying goodbye to hall life. Although i do not have much of a hall life, i do enjoy the company of studying with people, living with people, having supper at various hawker centres in Boon Lay, bickering with clarence, the convenience of campus life, etc...

There won't be anyone to listen to me sing songs while listening to music, won't be someone constantly there for me to vent my stress and frustration. I guess i'm quite dependent on people.

Didn't know i'll miss hall life until it's over. :(

Last Night in Hall 1

This week is the last week of our lessons and both me and my roomie Clarence won't be staying during the 4 week exam period. Took several photos as tonight is the last night that we will be staying.

Went out with Gs at night as both of us were rather sick of studying. Explored the newly opened Civil Service Club at Bukit Batok opposite Gs's house. There are quite a lot of facilities there; got bowling alley, ktv lounge, huge swimming pools, jacuzzi, restaurants, gym, tennis courts, etc. Took several pics of the club from a high point overlooking it.

We then headed to Mac for our supper before going back to our hall. Time flies indeed, we have endured almost 2 semesters in university.

Pre-Exams Part 1

>> Wednesday, April 05, 2006

We had our glider competition on monday and most of us were worried that our glider would not be up to par with other groups. Ours was indeed not up to par as the other groups had designed gliders which can fly really far. Nevertheless, we had quite a good time constructing the gliders together.

Took a picture of my group (minus a teammate) after the competition at Nanyang Community Centre.

Had my physics test today and it was rather manageable despite my lackadaisical efforts studying for it. Luckily i didn't "tio" the other version of the test which was much harder as others had proclaimed.

Going to start my actual preparations for the exams real soon. Real soon, i hope.

Study Weekend?

>> Monday, April 03, 2006

I'll be having my last physics quiz next tuesday and i had to study it over the weekend. Due to last minute circumstances, my glider group had to meet up again on sat. Serene and i went Fook Hai building in Chinatown to buy additional balsa wood for our glider before heading back to Samuel's house to construct it. We spent quite some time digressing while we built the glider. Tested its flight and it was much better compared to the smaller one we had previously made.

I then left to meet Ks and Jianyu to study in NUS Science library. I had to complete my maths and chemistry tutorials and study for my 10 chapters physics test. A lot of work to accomplish and i was progressing rather well. We then headed to Holland Village for dinner and i fetched both of them back to library before fetching Gs who had just finished his project in NUS as well. Both of us went to NTU where Terence had been studying since 1 pm. Derrick joined us slightly later at the tutorial room to study. We studied, or rather chatted our way until 12 midnight and headed to Boon Lay place for our supper.

Sunday, my overwhelming "studyload" didn't seem to stress me and i spent most of my time watching tv. Watched part of American Idol and the entire Campus Superstar from 7.30 pm to 11 pm. My plan to study today was thus vanquished by my laziness. 6 chapters to go and 5 tutorials to revise. Hopefully, there will be time to finish the syllabus tomorrow.

The Week in Review

>> Saturday, April 01, 2006

I had 2 tests on monday, chemistry and maths, and after my intensive studying last weekend, they were both manageable. Met up with my aerospace project group after our lessons to design our glider for a competition next week and met up with my effective com group next for our last presentation rehearsal. My day started at 8.30 am and ended at 8.30 pm.

Tuesday, we had our presentations and our effective com teacher graded each of us immediately after that. Upon seeing i got an A-, i was initially quite happy but after knowing that one of my teammates got an A, my happiness was reduced by a certain extent. Ha... Can't avoid the natural competitiveness in me.

Wed was a really unlucky day for me when it rained heavily just before my lesson ended. I had to walk from South Spine to North Spine for the sheltered bus stop, almost slipped on some slightly flooded pavements, got blocked by many people when rushing to take the shuttle bus and missed it (most people were waiting for SBS 179), waited 20 minutes for the next bus (super long in my standards), saw 3 shuttle buses on the other side of the road pass by, and finally when i was on the bus, water from the air con kept dripping onto my clothes (didn't shift seats as the bus was packed). It took almost 1 hour for me to get back to my hall! Was fuming over my unluckiness. :(

Thursday, my group met up for the glider construction again after our lessons. We carved out openings in the fuselage to fit the wings, sandpapered the entire plane, shaped the edges, implemented the aerofoil shape on the original flat wings, pasted everything together delicately to make sure the plane was balanced and aligned, and when we finally tested flying the glider, it was a disaster! There goes our hours of effort as we worked so hard for it without any result. Now, we have to build another glider which will take up much of our time.

A photo of our failed glider

Friday, went out with Daryl, Liyuan and SW to West Mall to watch Ice Age 2 as Ly and i have 2 Eng Wah movie vouchers each which is expiring on 31 Mar (today). Ice Age 2 is a jovial animation about friendship, loyalty, romance and the global warming crisis. The ice caps are melting at a fast rate and the animals need to migrate to safer ground before everything gets flooded. The squirrel rat is the most entertaining animal in the entire movie but it appears for only one quarter of the movie. Although the other characters (mammoth, female mammoth, twin possums, sloth and tiger) are amiable characters, they just meet our standards as being typical, wholesome and family-oriented. The story is rather simple and its concept is old enough already. If only the squirrel rat could dominate the entire movie with its antics, stunts, chases and hilarous movements, this movie could be a blast. Instead, Ice Age 2 is just a chuckle but kids will surely love it.
