School + Movie

Went to school today to redeem Mayday concert tickets but due to overwhelming response, i did not get the tickets. An hour and a half earlier of queuing didn't make the cut as there were only 100 tickets given away.

Thus, Qy, Dz, Yy and me went to JP to watch High School Musical 3: Senior Year instead. After the movie, some of us went back to school to do some FYP stuff. Made a little progress on my FYP today and i should be heading back to school to do more this week as i'll be away on holiday next week.

High School Musical 3: Senior Year is about two high school seniors Troy and Gabriella, who are faced with the ultimate prospect of being separated from one another as they go off in different directions after graduating from East High. Joined by the rest of their Wildcat friends, they stage an elaborate spring musical reflecting their experiences, hopes, and fears about the future.

It is my first time watching High School Musical and I have to admit i was slightly put off by the teensy feel of the movie. Almost the entire cast is less than 22 years old (i think) and the school setting made me feel a bit like watching an episode of love, loss and tribulations on the Disney tv channel.

However, not all is lost as the musicals are rousing and entertaining. One big positive aspect of this musical is that the cast can definitely sing. The musical sequences have impeccably designed sets, energetic and infectious dance choreography, and colourful costumes. What i didn't really like were some of the one dimensional characters in the movie like the snobbish, dumb, and attention-seeking Sharpay (go learn from Rachel McAdams in Mean Girls), and Kelski whom we only identify as the girl wearing specs.

Thankfully, the charisma of Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens help inject some depth in the show and they provide some believable chemistry on screen. The story involves telling audiences of progression to different stages in life and that good friends will always remain close to our hearts. A straightforward, sincere, and entertaining musical for the young to watch. This sugar-coated pop franchise movie is not really my cup of tea though.
