Buffet & Movie

>> Wednesday, January 07, 2009

Went out with some of my uni friends on Monday and we went to eat the high tea buffet from 3 to 5 pm. The price per pax is around $13.60 nett. It is quite cheap for a buffet and the variety of food there is significantly lesser than other existing buffets.

We then went to play pool for a short while before watching Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea.

The movie is about Sosuke, a 5-year-old boy who lives on a cliff. One day, he rescues a strange looking goldfish and names her Ponyo. He takes a great liking to her and promises to protect her forever. Unknown to him, Ponyo is a magic fish and she decides that she wants to live with Sosuke. Unfortunately, Ponyo's decision to give up her underwater life upsets an ancient magic spell and places the world in danger. Together, Sosuke and Ponyo must set things right. Synopsis extracted from Sg Movies.

This latest animation by Hayao Miyazaki is a tender, affectionate and lovingly cute one. This movie is inspired by "The Little Mermaid" and it showcases the brilliant colours of the fantasy underwater life as well as the vibrant characters in the animation. Sosuke is joyful and innocent as the boy infatuated with his magic goldfish, while Ponyo is exuberant and rebellious as the child running away from her underwater world. They develop baby love for each other and undergo testing trials as a huge storm was unleashed on the town they were staying. The story may be a little confusing for kids as there are powerful magic potions, colliding moon, and falling satellites that liven the imaginative and expressive story on family, love, and separation.

This animation is an enjoyable visual treat although the pacing can be improved in the middle of the movie.
