Went to NUS science lib to study for half a day and met up with my jc friends at Great World City in the evening to watch World Trade Centre. We had originally planned to go Vivocity but there were only front rows seats left when we checked over the internet.
World Trade Centre revolves around the 2 police officers who are trapped inside the rubble of the collapsed buildings. We get to know their wives, their children and their family who are on the verge of breakdown upon receiving the bad news. Maggie Gyllenhaal and Maria Bello are wonderful in their role as the distressed wives. Although this film is dignified with noble intentions, this movie is certainly no masterpiece. If the 911 attacks were fiction, this movie would have probably left minimal impact.
As a tribute to the people who died in the WTC, we cannot fault the film for what it wants to achieve. It is incredibly moving at times and there are some moments which activate our tear ducts. However, it is a downright conventional film which probably suits the sombre atmosphere as well as the appeal for the masses. ***
We spent the next 2 hours at a HK eatery opposite Great World City for supper before heading back.
