Day 5

Nice View of Anchorage Motel before leaving

We had finished most of the activities we wanted to do down south and we proceeded on our journey up north to Auckland.

Along the way to Whangeri, we passed by Waiomo Caves and decided to take a look inside. The entrance fee was NZ$10 and there was a tour guide bringing us around the glowworm cave.

It was totally dark inside the cave and we can only see the path with the tour guide's torchlight. My handphone torchlight was another source of light inside the dark cave.

Glowworm Cave!

Statues of Fertility? Nah... Just Stalactites

We spent 45 minutes in the cave and the guide explained the formation of caves, its location, the bio background of glowworms, its eating habits and its lifespan. It was an interesting tour through the caves and it reminded me of some movies like The Cave and The Descent.

Our next stop is Whangeri for our lunch. Bought 2 t-shirts at Jay Jay for NZ$15 each.

Along the 4 hour ride back to Auckland, we stopped by Warkworth Honey Centre. There are many different types of honey sold there and some bees were on display behind acrylic panels. We purchased some honey and got ourselves honey ice cream as well.

So many bees!

Took a number of scenic shots while sitting in the car.
