We celebrated Clarence's birthday on sat. Didn't really have a proper celebration as we did not buy a cake and throw a party for him. Shared a $115 dollar fossil leather watch for his present. After having dinner at orchard, my JC friends insisted on going my house although i told them that there is not much we can do at my house. They were still eager and the 7 of them had a tour in my house. A few of them used my computer and watched tv while the rest played dai dee and bridge. They got bored after around 1 hour and we decided to go other places. My house don't have much things to do unless i get the pool table.

We went for another trip to the deserted parts of singapore again. We originally planned to go back to the same place where terence and i saw the thing, but when we were near the place, they changed their minds and decided not to go there instead. One of them suggested Sarimbun camp which he claimed that it is a deserted camp and nobody lives there anymore. We agreed on that place and went there after turning into a sandy, uneven road which leads to sarimbun camp, camp kristine and 2 other places. We stopped near the entrance of the camp which was brightly lit and does not seem deserted at all. There were also packets of fresh rations and fruits on the tables in the cookhouse. We walked down a road beside the camp to see the coastline. It was really quite dark and we walked rather slowly because the road is quite bumpy and there are many pebbles and stones. I took a photo of the sea

and we also saw the light flare which is fired during night live firing. GS told me to quickly take a picture too.

Took a picture of the Police Coast Guard building beside us also.

Looks a bit scary inside right? Anyhow, we left the place a while later and went Boon Lay for supper.

Watched Bad Education today with Weiming. Really enjoyed the show. Met 2 of my bmt friends at night to watch Finding Neverland. Good show but not as great as i expected. Will be booking in bedok camp later for medical ffi. Gotta catch some sleep now that it's 3 am already. Zzzzz....

New House

>> Saturday, January 29, 2005

I'm finally settled in my new house after days of packing. My maid also arrived this tue. She is only 19 years old and she is from Indonesia. A nice and hardworking girl but a bit slow. Cannot blame her also coz she is inexperienced, and only had one previous employer. My wireless internet is set up yesterday, kudos to my sis bf. Now my internet connection is very fast, can download 1 mp3 in only around 30 seconds. Downloaded around 4 chinese albums so far tonight.

Went Ikea yesterday night with my sis and her bf. Did not buy a lot of stuff coz some of the prices are rather expensive, and the bad thing is that we have to assemble the furniture ourselves. Paid a delivery fee of $40 and the glass cabinets, mirrors and table will be arriving next mon. Did not find the white plastic table and chairs which we wanted to buy. They are supposed to be put on the open air 4th storey for bbq, scenery viewing, suntanning or whatever things.

The next on our list of things to buy is pool table. Our living room is very spacious and i think a pool table would fit nicely inside. Should be buying 8 or 9 feet table, depending on the prices. I should be paying for the pool table, considering the amount of money my father had already spent on the house. My sister has suggested that we buy from factories coz the retail shops that sell them have prices that are considerably higher.

Went dental ffi at Selarang camp today and came late, as usual. I arrived at 8.45 am, 15 mins later than the stipulated timing. Met jiekai, alwin and lumpy at the guard room. I was glad i was not the only one late or else i wouldn't know where to go. Felt really happy to see them and was telling them about my ns experience in Mindef. It was a stressful and mentally tiring experience but i think it was still worth it as i experienced office life and know how sian office work is. If i were given a choice to go 3 guards or mindef, i would still choose 3 guards because i choose physical exhaustion over stress anytime. Stress is extremely bad for the body, while physical activities build up our bodies. My health has been going steadily downhill after i went Mindef. I don't have time to exercise, i get stressed up, i eat slightly more unhealthy food and have a less balanced diet than in 3 guards. I think that is why i got sick last week. Anyway, NS is coming to an end soon. I will be having my last day in Mindef on 1st feb and will be going back bedok camp for medical ffi next mon. I think the clearance will have to be done on the 18th and 25th of feb. The bad thing is that we have to come back on the 15 and 16 of march to help out in 12th mono-intake BMT passing out parade. I wonder if i can dye my hair and go back bedok camp? When i saw most of my platoon mates today since mid Dec, one thing distinctively different is the length of their hair. Most of them had sported longer tresses. For me, i think i look awful in long hair and i still do cut it once every week. My hair at the back has grown rather long though. Most of us went to eat breakfast at tampines after our dental ffi. It's like going out with a group of long lost friends although it has only been around a month and a week since leaving bedok camp for Mindef. We should be going out together as a platoon next mon after our medical ffi, hoping to spend more time with them soon.

Woke up at 6.40 am today because my house is very far away from selarang camp. I took bus 184 to clementi mrt station, then took train to tanah merah and finally took bus 2 to selarang camp. I miss the days when transport was so convenient for me.

Gonna ORD very soon, and the 2 things on my mind are jobs and driving license. Should be going BBDC to apply for school next weekday. Hoping for some lobang to miraculously appear and earn more than $1000 a month. Haha..... I know it's like searching for a pin in the sea but what the heck, maybe i'll slowly find such a job when i'm learning driving. Gotta plan ahead but, well since we are the 1st batch of ORD personnel, i can't seem to feel the pressure of finding a job. I think it will probably hit me when i'm in the house lazing around and bored to death in the weeks ahead.

ORD lo..........

Watched Hotel Rwanda yesterday, went to pray today. Will be sleeping my last night in my Woodlands flat, moved most of the furniture there already. Have to pack more things now.

Encounter

>> Saturday, January 22, 2005

My JC classmate, Edwin, had organised a 21st birthday party at his house yesterday. My classmates and i went orchard in the afternooon to buy him a present. Orchard was as usual packed with thousands of people. I joined my friends slightly later coz i was busy packing my stuff into boxes. We walked around Far East Plaza without a clue what to buy. We then headed to Taka branded section and went inside LV. We were constantly amazed by the price tags and left the boutique promptly. Someone suggested MP3 player and we headed to Best to check out the prices. The price of Creative 256 mb player was $203 including GST. There were some other cheaper brands with 256 mb but we didn't really consider them coz we don't really trust the other brands.

We then went Sim Lim Square in Terence's car to buy the MP3 player. Had quite a tough time finding parking lots though. We checked out the prices in different stores but all were selling Creative 256 mb player at $175. Negotiated at a shop for $170 before buying it. 8 of us shared the present and each had to pay $21.25. Rather expensive but it's 21st birthday so must buy more expensive one.

Reached Edwin's house at 6.30 pm and some of his relatives had already reached. We took some food and sat on the chairs in the his garden. It was a bit boring at first coz we had nothing much to do after we finished our food. We requested for poka cards and began playing bridge. About half of my classmates did not know how to play and they learnt the basic skills after our coaching and playing for some rounds.

Time to cut the cake, Edwin took photos with his family, sec sch friends, army mates and finally us the JC friends before blowing the candle.

Some of his cheeky sec sch friends asked him to kiss his girlfriend and he declined as it was embarrassing in front of so many people. Many people started to cheer him on for the kiss and he finally obliged. Did not manage to capture the kiss coz my digicam would auto-focus before capturing the shot and will have a time lag of about 2 seconds.

We continued our card games and played 21 points with bets. Derrick was the dealer and most of us had bets between 20 cents to 50 cents. It was exciting because there would be a blackjack almost every round and everyone was rooting for the dealer to "bomb" or exceed 21 points everytime he drew a card. It was really fun and everyone had a great time.

We stayed there until around 11.30 pm and we took some photos with Derrick's new Mini Cooper before we left. It is really quite cute and the interior is rather cool.

The girls wanted to go home after that and Jimmy, Terence and Derrick sent them home. Took some photos of the interior of Derrick's car while sitting behind.

The speedometer was in the centre glowing with red light and there is also a digital speedometer telling you the exact speed. The bad thing about mini coopers are that it is rather bumpy when travelling at low speed and the windows and windscreen is lower than most cars, creating an enclosed feeling for the passengers. The five of the guys including me decided not to go home so early and we contemplated where to go again. Terence sent supper to his girlfriend's house and we decided to go choa chu kang coz Edwin was driving his girlfriend home at cck and we thought we might meet up with Edwin later.

The mini cooper was too fast for Terence's old nissan march to catch up and we broke contact for a few times. Most of us were too full for supper and we were driving around aimlessly. I had to take a leak and we stopped at Yew Tee mrt for a while. We drove aimlessly again later and we were kind of lost. We were driving along a road in Kranji Industrial Area and Clarence told me that this road will lead to Kranji Reservoir. I was rather excited because the scenery along Kranji bridge is fabulous. The last time i went there was during exercise long walk which we had to walk from ntu to kranji then to bukit timah. We drove past the bridge and we could see the lights from Johor across the vast stretch of water. But it was too dark to fully appreciate the wonderful view of area.

There were a few cars in the carpark and we being the kaypoh guys, drove past the cars slowly hoping to see some action. The bad thing is that the lamp posts are very few and we did not dare to flash the high beam too close to the car. All i could see is a guy whose seat is inclined far backwards and i did not catch the sight of someone else although Terence assured that he saw 2 people in the car. Well, i guess that might have been the case since why would anyone drive alone after midnight to such a deserted place? We did not stay for too long in the carpark and we drove along Kranji way which was headed to Lim Chu Kang. Terence turned his car into a side road Neo Tiew Crescent and we drove along the empty road for about 800 meters. I checked behind if Derrick's car was following behind us but they did not follow us. Then, we decided to U-turn as we did not know where this road was heading towards and the road seems too be very long ahead. Terence swerved his car to the right to do a 3 point turn as the road was only 2 single lanes. When he turned his head to check his left side, he noticed something on the road ahead of us. He told me "How come there is a box on the middle of the road?" I turned and saw something in the middle of the 2 lanes about 80 metres away from our car. I asked him "Is that a cat on the road?" But before i could receive an answer. I was totally shocked from what i saw. It was definitely not a cat, it was changing its shape constantly. The colour is white but it is slightly translucent. The "thing" stayed put in that same spot but it became elongated, pointed at the tip. It was turning its tip around and the whole shape was constantly changing. There is no face, no fixed form and totally non-explainable. I told Terence to get out of the place immediately as i was really surely that what we saw was what we should not have seen. Both of us were really really spooked by what we saw. I called Clarence immediately to inform them what we saw. Derrick, gs and clarence were waiting for us at the main kranji road.

They were at a disbelief to what we saw and they kept asking us whether it is true. They were definitely convinced when they saw our genuinely spooked faces. We described the whole incident to the 3 of them. They were shocked and stunned but they will not experience what me and terence had gone through. I will never forget the "thing" i saw on neo tiew crescent on 22 Jan at 1 am. Terence and i were complaining why we were so unlucky to see this. I guess Derrick has brought luck to his 2 passengers in his car because instinct told him not to turn into the side road. We went Boon Lay place for supper but most of the stalls were closed and we went Chong Pang Nasi Lemak near NUS for supper instead. Although me and terence did not have much appetite after the encounter, we still carried on as not to dampen others' spirits.

Left for home after that and shut my windows and door before going to sleep. I was still a little tramatised and took some time before dozing off.

I told my mother about my encounter when i woke up and checked out the exact location of the spot on www.streetdirectory.com.sg.

Never ever go to that place after midnight. The red spot is around the place we saw the "thing".

Announcements

>> Wednesday, January 19, 2005

Announcement 1: I have officially applied for another university course in NTU. It's aerospace engineering. Sounds interesting right? Accountancy seems absolutely boring comparatively. I decided to change my course because i have no interest in accountancy at all. I chose that in the past because it is a 3 years direct honours course with good job prospects. But i have finally found a course which i have some interest in.

But, but, but I don't think i will get into the course. Why? Because the first year intake is only 60 people. A mere 60 people which is something like 3 classes of JC students. The minimum academic requirements for aerospace engineering is all As for 3 A-level subjects. I got AA and B.............. Why??? Why?????????

But never mind, maybe even if i got 3 As, i might not get into the course because those clever like siao ding dong people who get 4 As and take as'S' papers will apply for that course and deprive people like me.

Nevertheless, i predict that my chances of getting into the course is only 10%. I just pray that those clever like siao people have all gotten scholarships, have forgotten to read the letter from NTU, have no interested in aerospace engine, or have gone overseas. It's just my wishful thinking.

Announcement 2: I'm moving house this sunday. Feeling a little excited and sian. Excited because i'll be living in a 3 storey house, sian because we have to pack so many things, move so many things and unpack so many things. My room is still in the same condition and i haven't packed a single thing yet. Where to start from? I'm just lazy to pack beforehand and i have to watch TV every weekday when i come home from work.

Clearing off tomorrow and 2 days next week, only left with around 1 week of working days before clearing leave. Yipee! I will not be a slave in the office soon. My superior is asking me to do tons of things before i go so that she will need to do less of her stuff in the future. Never mind i'm worked to the max, i only have to ENDURE 1 week.

Restless

>> Saturday, January 15, 2005

Another very busy week for me in Mindef. I think i photostated more than 50 pieces of documents, faxed several sheets, e-mailed quite some people and answered a lot of phone calls. The lowest point in the week was on Wednesday. I was really busy that day and my boss did not let me go for life activities at 4 pm. Actually, liyuan and i planned to watch a movie after sneaking off at 4 pm but due to my workload, i stayed until 5.30 pm as usual. I felt quite bad for liyuan as he waited for me from 4 to 5.30 pm so that we can watch Meet the Fockers together. This is not the worst, i found that i lost my temp pass when i reached the bus-stop all the way down the hill. I was really anxious and decided to report the loss at the main guardroom. However, the MP there told me to report it the next morning as the MPs in charge of passes are not around. I decided to search the route where i walked down from. I ran all the way up to the entrance of Mindef building and ran all the way back to the guardroom. My temp pass was nowhere to be found though. Time check: 6.10 pm. We headed to Causeway point immediately after that to catch the show. We were just on time for the 6.45 pm show but did not have time to eat dinner before the show.

After the show, i wan't feeling that anxious anymore although MTF is not a very funny show.

Was visibly tired the next day coz i slept at around 12 midnight. I had to watch the Amazing Race no matter what. I'm an avid fan of reality shows, would watch Survivor, America's Next Top Model, Fear Factor and American/Singapore idol if i have the chance.

I exchanged my 11b for a visitor pass on thur. I also requested for a Loss/Defacement of Temp/Permanent Passes form. I was a bit stunned when i read that i have to pay $50 for the loss. I was really disturbed by the fact that i had to part $50 just for that. I also asked the MPs if anyone found temp passes but they said no. I reported for work after that and was late for around 15 mins. I also told my boss that i lost my temp pass and she told me to go look for it. I was thinking where i could have lost it and thought maybe i could have thrown it into a dustbin when i was throwing a plastic bag into a dustbin outside Mindef building. Thus, i headed to scour the dustbin for my temp pass if i had really thrown it away. Luckily, a roadsweeper uncle was in the vicinity and i requested for trash bags to contain some rubbish while i was rummaging through them. My bmt friend who is a MP in Gombak camps noticed my unsightly behaviour and approached me to find out what i was doing. I was pleasantly surprised to find him here after nearly 2 years without contact after bmt. He is a very nice chap and helped me to pour the rubbish into the empty trash bags while i was searching. Luckily, there were not much people outside as most of them were working inside the building already. If not, i would be most embarrassed.

After about 20 mins, i gave up as my temp pass was definitely not in the 2 dustbins. We hanged around for a while after washing our hands to find out more about each other's lives and stuff and i gave him my handphone number so that he can contact me if any of his fellow MP mates found my temp pass.

I was constantly pissed with myself for being so careless to clip my temp pass loosely on the left hand pocket of my smart 4. My boss also told me not to report the loss so early as someone might have found it and handed it to the MPs. I heeded her advice and went to see the lost and found box at the guardroom, south and main entrance of Mindef building everyday during teabreak and lunchtime and when i'm going home. I was disappointed everytime i checked though.

The good news is that i only have to live with that for 2 days. This morning at around 1.23 am, Jia yi, my bmt friend smsed me that he found my temp pass at M block. A person from 1??th Sqn found it and handed it the the MP in his camp. Remember there are 3 camps in the Gombak area? The person who found it was not from Mindef and the camp had possession of my pass. Luckily, Jia yi had asked his MP mates guarding the building about my temp pass. I was really estatic to know that i won't have to pay $50! He said he will pass my pass to the main guardroom and i will be able to collect it on mon morning. I'm so glad to have met jia yi again and really appreciated what he has done.

It's Saturday today! Another long week at Mindef is gone and lian guo is coming back next mon after extracting 2 of his wisdom teeth this tue. My workload will definitely reduce with him around.

Originally planned to go swimming this morning but there were quite a lot of clouds and did not go. Going out later to watch a movie. What else is there to do in Singapore?
