Went to watch Hard Candy with Edwin and Derrick at Cineleisure on saturday night. The movie is definitely one of a kind as it showcases a superb cast that features several controversial themes. The story is about 2 people hooking up in a chatroom, a 14 yr old girl and a 32 yr old guy. They meet up at a cafe and proceeded to the guy's place next. However, the girl is not what she seems to be. She drugs the guy and ties him up, punishing him for being a paedophile.

Haley, brilliantly acted by Ellen Page, is the innocent and naive looking girl at first, her transformation next is entirely shocking as the psychopathic, dominating female filled with hatred. Patrick Wilson also gives a stellar performance as the captive who is manipulative yet pitiful in his plight. Some scenes depicted are stomach churning, disturbing and very painful to watch as the actors make the scenario intensely real. Entirely engrossing, exploitive and riveting, the director makes use of sharp imagery as well as unique cinematography to enhance its visuals. An amoral film which makes you think about what's right or wrong. ****
