Met up with Yining today to watch Cyborg She. It is a comedic Japanese movie with a perfectly cast cyborg and an interesting storyline. Melodramatic at parts but the well development of the characters result in a touching, romantic and comical time travel drama.

Spiderman in Singapore

>> Sunday, August 17, 2008

Thanks to Kian Shing for the Sakura buffet treat on Monday and thanks to Kok Sheng for the ktv treat on Saturday.

Went to the Career and Investment fairs at Suntec with Qy and Ys but did not find them useful at all. The Tang Bazaar beside was better as i got myself some shirts at discounted prices.

We chanced upon the "Spiderman" scaling the wall of Suntec Tower 1 and watched the climbing for some time.

After having dinner, I met up with Stephen to watch Meet Dave. It is quite a funny movie (mostly due to Eddie Murphy's great comedic sense) but the jokes are mostly geared towards slapstick only. A brainless movie as expected but a rather entertaining movie to watch.

Meetups and Movies

>> Sunday, August 03, 2008

Been meeting up with my uni friends and jc friends the past 2 days.

Watched The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor and The Dark Knight, and I really enjoyed the latter.

Haven't watched a single movie over in Europe and it was good to immerse myself into the world of movies again.

The Dark Knight is simply thrilling, engaging and well-acted by the leads, especially Heath Ledger as the psychotic, manipulative and sadistic joker. It succeeds not just as a comic book adaptation but as a crime saga that is dark, intense and riveting. Brilliant direction from Christopher Nolan and fabulous action sequences make The Dark Knight a superb Hollywood blockbuster. Highly recommended.

The Mummy doesn't fare too well as it concentrates on action sequences alone. Rachel Weisz has been replaced by Maria Bello as the wife of explorer, Rick O'Connell, played by Brendan Fraser. Both of them doesn't seem to have much chemistry together and they play supporting roles to the CGI and action. The movie is almost devoid of character development and there is also no story to boost.

Basically, it is about the couple who are forced to revive the Dragon Emperor and he wrecks havoc in Shanghai, the Himalayas and Shangri-la. The story is predictable and laughable but the action and special effects are quite commendable.
